Meet Our Day Camp Team: Bianca Olson

Bianca Olson, one of the Elmhurst YMCA’s Day Camp Counselors, is a student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, majoring in studio art photography and minoring in art history and film production. Bianca is from Roselle, Illinois, and she loves dogs! This summer, she’s excited to meet the campers and do fun and cool projects with them!

Q: Why did you choose to become a Counselor for the Y?

A: I never worked with children in a formal setting — despite helping my mom with her daycare my whole life — and I wanted to try it out!

Q: What do you like most about the work that the Y does?

A: I love their open and friendly approach to everything.

Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

A: I failed gymnastics three times as a kid, despite being into sports. Please don’t ask me to do a cartwheel!

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be (and why)?

A: I would have the same powers as Doctor Strange — he’s my favorite. Time control, and all that, is cool.

Q: What’s the last song you listened to?

A: “Doomsday” by MF DOOM.

Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list?

A: To see the northern lights!

Q: Anything else you want to share with us? We love random tidbits and facts!

A: I’m so excited to become best buddies with the kids and have a great, creative summer! 😀

The YMCA of Metro Chicago believes in the power of play. We play for fun and for progress. Day Camp at the Y empowers Chicagoland youth to do mighty things — making friends, developing new skills, creating life-shaping experiences, and so much more!

Our experienced and talented counselors and staff are committed to making sure your camper experiences a full day of play, exploration, learning, and personal growth. Here at the Y, we want to show off our Day Camp team’s amazing talents and contributions to our community — and find even more talented, community-oriented individuals who want to work at the YMCA!
