Where Campfires Create Belonging

This summer, more than 1,200 YMCAs across all 50 states celebrated Campfire Across America. The event centered on hosting a real or symbolic campfire that brings people together for a shared moment of connection, reflection, and belonging.

For decades, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago has created welcoming camp experiences where children, adults, and families can discover adventure, build confidence, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

At YMCA Camp Duncan and YMCA Camp MacLean, young people develop independence, self-reliance, healthy habits, and an appreciation for nature while enjoying campfires, canoeing, archery, hiking, and swimming. YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa invites campers of all ages to reconnect with one another through swimming, kayaking, hiking, archery, and evenings around the campfire. YMCA Camp Independence offers children and teens with spina bifida the opportunity to build confidence, form meaningful friendships, and develop lifelong skills while participating in traditional camp activities.

“At the YMCA of Metro Chicago, overnight and family camp is a place where youth, teens, and families can grow, explore, connect and discover just what they’re capable of," said Jeff Tremmel, YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago Camp District Leader.

From warm campfires and outdoor adventures to life-changing opportunities for personal growth, our four overnight & family camps create the friendships, sense of community, and lasting memories that make every camper feel at home.

There’s a camper in all of us. Sign up today or book your stay and begin your next unforgettable adventure with camps at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago.
