Elmhurst YMCA: Celebrating 65 Years of Community Service
Last month, the Elmhurst YMCA marked a major milestone, celebrating 65 years of service to the community with a heartfelt Legacy Celebration and Community Open Skate. The event brought together longtime supporters, families, and new neighbors to honor the Y’s enduring impact on generations of Elmhurst residents.
The Legacy Celebration recognized the many individuals and families who have helped sustain the Elmhurst YMCA over the decades. Guests reflected on the YMCA’s role as a cornerstone of community life, from swim lessons that built confidence in children, to hockey leagues that fostered teamwork, to Silver Sneakers classes that kept older adults active.
The celebration continued over Thanksgiving weekend with a free Community Open Skate, welcoming more than 250 skaters to the rink. Families enjoyed cruising on the ice, snagging Blackhawks giveaways, competing in Shoot the Puck, and even catching the Bears win together. The energy was electric, and the turnout underscored the YMCA’s role as a hub for connection, joy, and tradition in Elmhurst.
“For 65 years, the Elmhurst Y has given people of all ages a place to find belonging, support, and opportunities to grow – mind, body, and spirit,” said Ron Anderson, Elmhurst YMCA Executive Director. “This event is a chance to recognize those who helped build and sustain the Elmhurst Y and to look ahead to how we’ll continue to serve families, individuals, and seniors with programs that meet their evolving needs.”
Proceeds raised support the Elmhurst YMCA, ensuring that our transformative programming is accessible to our community members. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our decades of impact and helped to write the next chapter for the Elmhurst Y!
