Celebrating the Magic of Camp at the 2025 YMCA Camp Independence Gala

Earlier this month, the YMCA Camp Independence community came together for the 2025 Camp Independence Gala, an unforgettable evening filled with the unmistakable magic of camp.

Thanks to our amazing supporters, we raised over $250,000 — an incredible milestone that ensures that campers who have spina bifida can continue to experience the growth and connection fostered at Camp Independence.

“On behalf of the entire Camp Independence team, thank you for helping keep the magic of camp alive and burning bright!” said Jason Kuffel, Executive Director, YMCA Camp Independence. “Your support ensures that youth, teens, and adults of all abilities can develop self-reliance, discover a love for nature, and form meaningful relationships, all while enjoying the fun of traditional camp activities, specially tailored to their unique needs.”

Camp Independence offers a special camp experience that meets campers where they are, empowering youth, teens, and adults to build confidence, self-reliance, and lifelong friendships amidst the fun of traditional camp activities. Working with health professionals and dedicated camp team members, Camp Independence ensures that each camper has the resources needed to meet personal goals and feel empowered to take on new adventures and challenges.

“I’ve grown a lot,” said Madi A., camp counselor and former camper, YMCA Camp Independence. “I’ve noticed it just in the last couple years, I’ve said yes to a lot more things than I would have in the past. A lot of people say [Camp Independence is] my second home, but I say it’s my home.”

Special thanks to all of our community partners and attendees who made this event joyful. Their dedication to Camp Independence is what keeps the magic of camp alive and burning bright.
