Fry Family YMCA Staff Spotlight: Myles Cochran

Myles Cochran, Fry Family YMCA’s Member Engagement Supervisor, has been a part of the Fry Family Y team since April 2023! He is excited about his career in the sports and recreation industry and has previously worked in customer service.

Myles studied sports and recreation management and minored in finance at Marian University of Wisconsin, where he graduated in August 2021 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He’s passionate about sports, primarily college basketball, and aviation!

Q: What is your job as the Member Engagement Supervisor of the Fry Family YMCA?

A: My main focus is to meet with the community and showcase what the Fry Family Y has to offer. I mainly work with families from all walks of life, to identify how the Y can be used as a tool for accomplishing their goals.

Q: What is your favorite part of working at the Y?

A: My favorite part of working at the Y are the events that we host. It really brings families of the community together in a positive manner. I really enjoy discovering the different types of people and their values. Being able to match the community's values with the services we offer are the moments that I enjoy the most about working at the Y.

Q: What do you like most about the work that the Y does?

A: I like how the Y serves the unprivileged communities. It provides a community to make sure everybody has an opportunity to participate in some form of play.

Q: What is your favorite memory from working at the Fry Family Y?

A: My favorite memory so far was meeting Fry Family Silver Sneaker members. Ron is always joking around after their Silver Sneakers class. They are very fixated about their coffee and donuts after class!

Q: What are you most proud of in your career so far?

A: I am most proud of my role with the Y. It feels fulfilling to actually be working in the industry I studied in college.

Q: What’s something new you’ve learned about yourself in the last year?

A: I have learned that I am more resilient than I thought.

Q: If you could hang out with any person (real or fiction), who would you choose and why?

A: If I could hang out with any real person, I would choose to hang out with motivational speaker and former college football player Inky Johnson. Inky seems like he is very comfortable with who he is. He has this spirit of calmness and gratefulness despite all he has overcome in his life. I would love to gain wisdom from Inky.

Q: If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

A: If I could become an expert in something, I would become an expert in philosophy.

Q: What piece of advice would you share with your younger self?

A: I would tell my younger self that it is okay to enjoy the moment and to be where your feet are.
