Fry Family YMCA Staff Spotlight: Lynn Martinez

Lynn Martinez, Fry Family YMCA’s Wellness Manager, joined the Fry Family Y team in June 2023 and has loved health and wellness for as long as she can remember! From dancing in her room to becoming the captain of her high school dance group to teaching classes, fitness has always been a part of her life.

Lynn has taught wellness classes for decades and led personal training for several years. She previously worked at Greater Joliet Area YMCAs for almost nine years and LifeTime for a year-and-a-half before joining the Fry Family Y. Lynn has many fitness certifications and loves teaching different exercise formats. She’s excited to share her knowledge with Fry Family Y community members!

Q: What is your job as the Wellness Manager of the Fry Family YMCA?

A: I make sure the Fry Family YMCA’s personal training and group fitness departments run smoothly for our members and guests.

Q: What is your favorite part of working at the Y? 

A: My favorite part of working at the Y is being able to share my love of health and fitness with the fabulous members of the Y and to lead the amazing and knowledgeable instructors and trainers!

Q: What do you like most about the work that the Y does? 

A: I like the sense of community the Y possesses. Everyone belongs here! 

Q: What are you most proud of in your career so far? 

A: I am the most proud that I could show my two daughters that you can be successful and also love the field you work in at the same time. 

Q: What’s something new you’ve learned about yourself in the last year?

A: I learned I can be resilient and strong, no matter what the circumstance.

Q: If you could hang out with any person (real or fiction), who would you choose and why?

A: I would hang out with Maria Shriver. She is the epitome of grace, even when she faces hardships, and is extremely intelligent.

Q: If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

A: Cleaning my house in no time!

Q: What piece of advice would you share with your younger self?

A: I would tell my younger self to never give up. If you truly want something and are willing to put in the work, you can achieve anything!
