Sports

The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming active and developing healthy habits they will continue throughout their lives. In a Y sports program, your child will meet friends, learn new skills, improve his or her fitness and most importantly have fun! Whether it's gaining the confidence that comes with learning a new sport, building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, or refining and improving skills, participating in sports at the Y is a bout building the whole athlete, inside and out. You can find all class descriptions and other sports information below:

INFANT & PRESCHOOL SPORTS

Athletes in Motion (ages 3-5)
A fun class where kids are introduced to the simple fundamentals of an individual sport, then play mini-games based on that specific sport. Click here to register


Preschool Basketball (ages 3-5)
The YMCA invented basketball 127 years ago, and it’s still the best place to learn the sport today. At this level, we’ll learn all the basics of pre-K basketball, including the fundamentals and rules, and play some mini-games and scrimmages to help improve those skills. Click here to register


Preschool Soccer (ages 3-5)
This introductory soccer class will teach the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and the position of goalkeeper. Click here to register


Preschool Sports of All Sorts (ages 3-5)
Ready for some football? Or soccer? Or basketball? If you can’t decide which sport to love and play, why not play them all? We’ll teach kids to kick the soccer ball, dribble the basketball, hit the baseball, and score a goal in hockey. Click here to register


Preschool T-Ball (ages 3-5)
This 8-week t-ball class offers participants both individual skill development and games! We’ll learn the basics of throwing, catching, batting, fielding, and baserunning. Click here to register


Tiny Tumblers (Parent/Child Class) (ages 1-2)
Open to boys and girls, this introductory class develops strength, flexibility, coordination, and body awareness. Your little one will also learn tumbling vocabulary and how to participate in a tumbling class setting.  Click here to register

 

PRESCHOOL SPORTS LEAGUES

T-Ball League (ages 4-6)
Come learn the basics of baseball! This 9-week tee ball league offers participants both individual skill development, teamwork and games! Tee ball will be offered twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Register today! Click here to register 


Soccer League (ages 3-12)
A developmental program for all youth players and all skill levels. Our trained and knowledgeable coaches will develop the physical skills and techniques your child needs to enjoy the game of soccer for life. Coaches will build your child’s confidence through skill work and character development, putting an emphasis not only on athleticism but also instilling values such as teamwork, respect, and responsibility. Participants will practice once a week for an hour and have a match on Saturday.  Click to register


Basketball League (ages 3-5)
We’ll develop your child’s skills and overall enjoyment for the sport of basketball. Teams will have experienced and trained coaches for all age levels. All teams will have one practice a week and one game a week with a playoff tournament at the end of the year. Games on Saturdays with times varying. One evening practice per week, except for pre-K leagues. All practices and games at the Foglia Y.  Click here to register

 

YOUTH SPORTS CLASSES

Basketball Levels 1, 2, 3 (ages 6-14)
Players will focus on improving passing, dribbling, and shooting skills. Sessions focus on new offensive moves by developing footwork and ball skills. Skill sessions are great for players in any of our leagues, or for any player who wants to improve his or her basketball skills.  Click here to register 


Flag Football (ages 10-14)
Flag Football is a safer alternative to tackle football that provides all the benefits — collaborative teamwork and character-building — without the risk of injury. Our instructors will introduce the basics of football education, teamwork and sportsmanship. Click here to register 


Floor Hockey (ages 6-12)
Hockey is a fun, character-building sport in its own right, but it also provides a great athletic foundation that easily translates to other sports. At the Y, our instructors teach the fundamentals of stick handling, passing, shooting, and teamwork, plus socio-emotional skills like self-confidence and trust that your child can carry throughout their lives. High Ropes Madness (ages 6-12)
Participants will combine the skills they may have learned in rock climbing class, and learn more of the skills needed to become a more successful climber, as well as belayer. We will focus on knot-tying, equipment use and set-up, and climbing commands. The group will learn how to safely climb up the high ropes course in this class, as well as other fun activities such as Giant’s Ladder, Pamper Pole, and the Slack Line. Click here to register


Pickleball (ages 6-12)
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles to hit a Wiffle Ball over a net. Come join the fun and learn what all the excitement is all about! 


Rock Climbing (ages 6-12)
Kids will learn some of the skills needed to become a more successful climber, as well as a belayer. We will focus on knot-tying, equipment use and set-up, and climbing commands. The group will learn how to safely climb up the high ropes course in this class, as well as other fun activities such as Giant’s Ladder, Pamper Pole and lead climbing. Click here to register

The YMCA didn’t just invent basketball — we invented volleyball, too, way back in 1895. Today, our professional coaches will teach you how to serve, pass, set, and hit and in a fun, non-competitive environment. Click here to register

 

YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUES

Flag Football League (ages 5-12)
YMCA Flag Football is a recreational program designed for coed players new to the sport of football as well as those not quite ready for tackle football. Our focus is on football education, participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Each team will have 1 weeknight practice, with games on Saturdays, all played here at the Foglia YMCA. The Foglia YMCA soccer league is a developmental program for all youth players and all skill levels. Our trained and knowledgeable coaches will develop the physical skills and techniques your child needs to enjoy the game of soccer for life.
