Meet Our Day Camp Team: Anna Solorzano

Anna Solorzano, Youth Development Director of the Rauner Family YMCA, gained interest in youth programming when she was a teen! In high school, she was a part of the After School Matters programming, and then she returned as an intern in college. Solorzano has stayed in the nonprofit world and began working at the Y two years ago. She is passionate about teaching and also loves learning. She tries to take many workshops, and her current favorite was candle making.

Q: What is your favorite part of working at the YMCA?

A: I like that we’re able to help and support people as much as we possibly can. Y staff in all the centers have been great team players, and we all have similar goals.

Q: What do you like most about the work that the Y does?

A: I really love that the Y really tries to support its members by bringing the best experiences possible.

Q: What is your favorite part about Day Camp at the Y?

A: Happy campers and families!

Q: What is your favorite memory from Day Camp at the Y?

A: Kiddos having fun, as well as the camp staff, including the front desk.

Q: What are you most proud of in your career so far?

A: I’m most proud of the support and connections I’ve been able to make with my staff and team. I believe I can be a supportive guide for them.

Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

A: I am very competitive and love to push myself to do more. I have many interests, so I may be able to teach you something new!

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be (and why)?

A: I’d like to time travel, but without the consequences of changing any timelines! I’d like to learn more about our past and see how it will affect our present and future.

Q: What’s the last song you listened to?

A: “Me Porto Bonito” by Bad Bunny featuring Chencho Corleone.

Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list?

A: I would love to do paragliding.

The YMCA of Metro Chicago believes in the power of play. We play for fun and for progress. Day Camp at the Y empowers Chicagoland youth to do mighty things — making friends, developing new skills, creating life-shaping experiences, and so much more!

Our experienced and talented counselors and staff are committed to making sure your camper experiences a full day of play, exploration, learning, and personal growth. Here at the Y, we want to show off our Day Camp team’s amazing talents and contributions to our community — and find even more talented, community-oriented individuals who want to work at the YMCA!
