Miles for Smiles Raises More Than $27,000 for Palatine Youth
On February 25, 2023, more than 100 individuals got moving to help raise funds for youth served by the Buehler YMCA! Whether it was running, walking, biking, swimming, Zumba-ing, Body Pump-ing, playing in the snow (or what was left of it!), or any other movement, the Palatine community joined together to support the fifth annual Miles for Smiles fundraiser.
“Through the support of our local community, Miles for Smiles raised more than $27,000 to support the Buehler Y scholarship fund — an all-time record for this fundraiser,” said Ed Heiser, Executive Director of the Buehler YMCA. “We’re grateful to our community of supporters, including Huntington Bank, that are helping support youth initiatives in our local community, such as summer camp scholarships, after school care, and access to programs like swimming and gymnastics.”
Miles for Smiles has raised over $66,000 over the five-year history of the event. This year, the local community and Buehler Y supporters were encouraged to log a 5K (3.1 miles) or 45 minutes of activity on February 25 — and post a selfie or group photo online, because who doesn’t enjoy a photo moment! Throughout the day, the Buehler Y offered activities, from a run with event founders Mike and Kristen to Body Conditioning with Agnes and Zumba Gold with Nori.
And because more than 100 people completed the 5K challenge on February 25, a group of donors has contributed $5,000 to the Buehler Y scholarship program, adding to the existing funds already raised in support of Miles for Smiles. As a special bonus, Zurich Insurance Group tripled the bonus contribution by contributing $10,000 to the cause!
While the official event may be over, there’s still time to support the Buehler Y and Miles for Smiles. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution. You can help us expand our reach and serve more youth in our community. As always, 100% of funds raised will support youth initiatives at the Buehler YMCA, including scholarships for summer camp, childcare, and youth programming.
