Meet Our Day Camp Team: Reno Waswil
Reno Waswil, STEAM Manager of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and has been working in STEAM education ever since. Waswil has been working at the Y since April of 2019 and loves how the Y sites serve as resources to our communities.
Q: What is your favorite part of working at the YMCA?
A: My favorite part of working at the Y is being able to help people solve problems and learn new things.
Q: What is your favorite part about Day Camp at the Y?
A: My favorite part of Day Camp is giving kids the opportunity to make something themselves and seeing their excitement when it is complete.
Q: What is your favorite memory from Day Camp at the Y?
A: My favorite memory of Day Camp was running Zoom pre-camp during Virtual Specialty Camps in 2020!
Q: What are you most proud of in your career so far?
A: I am proud of developing programming that excites and inspires kids.
Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
A: I help run a satire science, technology, and horror project with Lumpen Radio.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be (and why)?
A: Transportation, so that I would not have to travel.
Q: What’s the last song you listened to?
A: “A Baby for Pree/Glow Into You” by Neutral Milk Hotel.
Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list?
A: To perform music live.
