Creating Space to Play, Grow, and Belong: Youth Soccer League Launches at Rauner Family YMCA

At the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play, connect, and thrive. This summer, the Rauner Family YMCA is proud to launch a free, eight-week Youth Soccer League in partnership with Chicago Neighborhood Soccer (NBHD Soccer)—a collaboration rooted in community and shared purpose.

A League Built on Community

This new league is designed to serve youth in the Little Village and Pilsen neighborhoods, offering a safe, welcoming space for young athletes to build skills, make friends, and experience the joy of the game. Open to youth entering 4th through 8th grade, the league will run from June 25 through mid-August, with approximately 100 participants expected.

Thanks to the support of local schools, nonprofits, and especially NBHD Soccer, this program is completely free for families—removing barriers and expanding access to high-quality youth sports.

Powered by Partnership

NBHD Soccer has been instrumental in making this league possible. Founded by community leaders with over a decade of experience organizing inclusive soccer programming across Chicago’s South and West Sides, NBHD Soccer brings deep expertise and a shared commitment to youth development.

Their team is providing volunteer referees for the entire season, helping to ensure that every match is safe, fair, and fun. Their mission to cultivate inclusive communities through elevated soccer experiences aligns seamlessly with the YMCA’s values.

“NBHD Soccer’s commitment to community mirrors everything we strive for at the Y,” said Teresa Barajas, Executive Director at the Rauner Family YMCA. “Their leadership and dedication are helping us create a league that reflects the strength and spirit of our neighborhoods.”

A Place to Belong

At the YMCA, we know that sports are about more than competition—they’re about connection. This league is a space where young people can feel seen, supported, and celebrated. It’s a place where they can grow not only as athletes, but as teammates, leaders, and members of a caring community.

We’re proud to partner with NBHD Soccer to bring this vision to life. Together, we’re creating more than a soccer league—we’re creating a foundation for youth to thrive.
