The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming active and developing healthy habits they will continue throughout their lives. In a Y sports program, your child will meet friends, learn new skills, improve his or her fitness and most importantly have fun! Whether it's gaining the confidence that comes with learning a new sport, building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, or refining and improving skills, participating in sports at the Y is a bout building the whole athlete, inside and out. INFANT & PRESCHOOL SPORTS CLASSES

Parent and Tot Tumbling (ages 2-3)
This is an introductory class to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness while learning gross motor skills for tumbling. Your little one will also learn tumbling vocabulary and how to participate in a tumbling class setting to set them up for success in their tumbling classes to follow.  Click here to register


Preschool Tumbling (ages 3-4)
This is an introductory class for preschool-age children ready to develop coordination, body awareness and cross motor skills while working on listening skills, social skills and following directions providing them with a strong foundation to build on in their tumbling classes to follow. Curriculum is progressive with a different body position and concentration each week. Click here to register


Preschool Basketball (ages 3-5)
This class is designed to work on the basic fundamentals of basketball such as passing, dribbling and movement. These classes will focus on hand-eye coordination and introduce the ideas of sportsmanship and team play. They will learn specific basketball skills that will transfer to everyday life. Preschool Soccer (ages 3-5) Our focus in preschool sports is teaching fundamentals, sportsmanship, and independence through games and drills. Participants will learn the meaning of teamwork and how to work with others around them. 

 

SPORTS LEAGUES

Youth Basketball Leagues (ages 5-14)
We continue to be committed to teaching your child the fundamentals of basketball, while competing in a fun and friendly environment! The Y Youth Basketball League is the perfect fit for you and your family. Our leagues are focused on developing your child’s skills and overall enjoyment for the sport of basketball. 


Adult Basketball League (ages 18+)
Register as a full team or Individual. Leagues will be 10 weeks long on Wednesday nights. An end of season tournament will take place on the last week. Each game will have one referee and one scorekeeper. 


Floor Hockey League (ages 6-12)
League will consist of co-ed teams and. All equipment will be provided. The goal is to improve individual skills, as well as learning how to be part of a team!

 

YOUTH SPORTS CLASSES

Floor Hockey (ages 7-11)
Our instructors can’t wait to teach the fundamentals of stick handling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. Floor Hockey requires excellent hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes and good decision making. Developing these skills and more will give your child a great athletic foundation that will easily translate to other sports. Click here to register


Sports of Sorts (ages 5-12)
Learn a variety of sports such as football, basketball, volleyball and floor hockey! The class will also explore the importance of nutrition and how to live a healthy lifestyle. 


Volleyball (ages 5-12)
Join the Irving Park YMCA Youth Volleyball class where participants will have the opportunity to explore interests through recreational and competitive play. Youth and teens will concentrate on developing fundamentals and passion. 


Soccer (ages 5-11)
The Irving Park YMCA soccer program is a developmental program for all youth players and all skill levels. Our trained and knowledgeable coaches will develop the physical skills and techniques your child needs to enjoy the game of soccer for life. All of our classes promote competing in a fun and friendly environment. We focus on the whole child. Coaches will build your child’s confidence through skill work and character development; putting an emphasis not only on athleticism but also instilling values such as teamwork, respect, and responsibility. 


Young Beginner Tumbling (ages 5-6)
This class will be an introduction to most of the level 1 tumbling curriculum in a group of their peers. Some key skills that will be introduced and worked on in this class include rolls, handstands, cartwheels, and bridges. Click here to register


Level 1 Tumbling (ages 6-12)
Movement through our tumbling levels is based on an end of session evaluation. This ensures that your child builds their tumbling skills safely off of a solid foundation. Tumblers will work to master many skills in this level. Some key skills introduced and worked on in level 1 include backward roll, cartwheel, handstands and bridges.


Dance (ages 5-10)
Modern Dance originated in the late 19th century as a reaction against the confines of classical ballet traditions. Modern Dance welcomes all bodies and encourages selfexpression. Full-bodied dancing, and creative outlet. Modern dancers practice placement, balance, traveling through space, coordination, shape-making, and energetic commitment to fully expressive movements.
