South Chicago YMCA Closing as Y Fiscal Constraints Force Reallocation

September 06, 2017

The South Chicago YMCA at 3039 E. 91st St., will shut its doors Oct. 31, due to budget constraints that have forced a system-wide reassessment by the YMCA of Metro Chicago. (Chicago Sun-Times)"

The South Chicago YMCA, featured in the Chicago Sun-Times, will close its doors on October 31, 2017, after serving the community for more than 90 years. The South Chicago area saw a decrease in population and employment these past few years.

Housing at the site will continue to operate and the Youth Safety and Violence Prevention program will remain onsite until a new suitable location is identified.
