South Chicago YMCA Closing as Y Fiscal Constraints Force Reallocation

The South Chicago YMCA, featured in the Chicago Sun-Times, will close its doors on October 31, 2017, after serving the community for more than 90 years. A steady decline in membership and early childhood education enrollment led to this carefully weighted decision, along with a roughly $3 million needed renovation. The South Chicago area saw a decrease in population and employment these past few years.

Housing at the site will continue to operate and the Youth Safety and Violence Prevention program will remain onsite until a new suitable location is identified.
