Celebrating Open House Chicago 2024 at the Irving Park Y
Earlier this month, the Irving Park YMCA had the privilege of sharing our Community Hub’s rich history during Open House Chicago 2024. Organized by the Chicago Architecture Center, this annual citywide festival provides a wonderful opportunity for the public to discover some of Chicago’s most remarkable architecture, history, and culture — all at no cost.
On October 19 and 20, the Irving Park Y welcomed our community from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a tour of our historic facility, encouraging residents to engage with the spaces that shape our city. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about nearly a century of service at the Irving Park Y, explore our Chicago Bears’ Den, and learn more about our Single Resident Occupancy housing program. Since 1925, the Irving Park Y has provided housing for low-income adults in the Chicagoland area, making us one of the largest supportive-housing providers in the Midwest.
We were delighted to welcome over 700 visitors throughout the weekend! This event was a fantastic chance to share our history and connect with both new faces and our valued community members.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Chicago Architecture Center for including us in this incredible event. Open House Chicago continues to be one of the largest events of its kind in the world, and we were proud to be a part of it.
We loved meeting everyone who came by and shared in the spirit of our community. If you are a member of the Irving Park YMCA community and would still like to write your own page in the Irving Park Y’s history, please consider filling out our Irving Park YMCA Community Stories form. We appreciate you and all that you do for our Y!
