Preschool

As one of the largest non-profit organizations in the Chicagoland area, the YMCA offers licensed preschool and early childhood education in order to provide children a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn, grow and thrive.

In the Y’s preschool programs, your child will build social skills, conflict-resolution skills, self-esteem and friendships! Our teachers are professionally trained and DCFS-certified, with continual professional development in order to ensure the best, most current practices in the classroom. At the Y, we strive to form a partnership with every family based on mutual trust, understanding and respect.

Preschool Curriculum

Our preschool curriculum promotes individual growth through learning, explorations and creativity via the Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum is fully aligned with state and national Early Learning Standards. By allowing children to explore their own interests, this curriculum promotes social, emotional, and physical development, as well as language, anti-bias literacy, math and critical thinking.

In order to develop the whole child based on their individual developmental needs, the curriculum also includes science, social studies, cooking, swimming, physical education (gym time), learning with technology, and the arts.

Preschool Locations (2-5 years of age)

Programs vary by location, including half-days, full-days, science, social studies, gross motor play, creative art experiences, learning through technology, and physical curriculums that include swimming, tumbling, gym time, and ice skating.

Early Head Start and Head Start

Our Early Head Start and Head Start programs are ExcelRate Illinois Gold Circle of Quality-awarded, and NAEYC-accredited. The YMCA promotes academic readiness in literacy and language, math, science, technology, the arts and physical education. Here, children will develop self-esteem, self-regulation, and positive interactions with peers and adults!

We maintain highly qualified staff and low child-to-staff ratios, care for children with disabilities, and provide healthy snacks, meals, formula, diapers and wipes at no cost. Additionally, families will receive a FREE Y membership when they enroll!

Subsidized child-care assistance is available for qualified families. If needed, the Y provides assistance to families regarding transportation to and from program activities.
