Indian Boundary YMCA needs you! We are seeking out anyone interested in volunteering their time on our board or fundraising committees. Our Executive Director is committed to finding members or those otherwise emotionally engaged with our Y to gain better insight into the needs of the community we serve and to make a better connection between our members and the events the board supports. Please contact Erik Knowles at firstname.lastname@example.org if interested in getting involved.
As a result of this committed search, we have already welcomed two new board members that we are excited to introduce to our community.
Meet Gail Asonye
Gail (Cuda) Asonye grew up in Chicago, IL. She is a CPA and has worked in software development. She and her husband, Uche, started their law firm where she now assists with the practice. She moved to Downers Grove in 1996 after their child was born. She now has 3 children Daniel, Kayla, and Ciara.
Gail and her family joined the Indian Boundary YMCA when the children were young. They have enjoyed many of the good youth programming the Y has to offer including swim lessons, soccer and basketball leagues, as well as having spent time in the summer at day camp. This past summer her daughter, Kayla, returned to day camp as a counselor in order to give more kids the awesome experience she had. Gail and her husband are frequently seen at the Y’s fitness classes- stop by and say hi! She loves attending the classes because she says instructors are very motivating, plus she likes to see all the friendly, familiar faces at class and meet new people. Some of her favorites are Turbo Kick and Cycle.
Gail recently made the decision to join the board of directors hoping to give back to the community and to ensure that IBY continues to be great place for the whole family!
Uche is an attorney and certified public accountant. He owns and operates a law firm with Gail in Chicago. In his spare time, he enjoys reggae music, dancing, cycling, NFL football and hiking. Uche, Gail, and family joined the YMCA specifically in 2003. They live in Downers Grove near Good Samaritan Hospital. Daniel, Kayla and Ciara love the Y as much as they do. Uche, along with Gail, loves the various workout classes offered in the mornings at the Y. He really enjoys the high intensity cardio classes and well as Body Pump. Uche decided to join the Board to help in making the YMCA even more enjoyable for present and future members and their families than it already is for their family. He is eager to contribute as needed. He has a sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Uche Olekanma, MD and their two children that are also long-term members of the Y, attending mostly the 5:30am classes. It truly is a family place for our two new board members- help us welcome them!
