Inspirational Morning at the YMCA Naperville Mayor’s Community Breakfast

December 01, 2017

Thank you to everyone who came out to welcome the holiday season with us!"

The Naperville YMCAs welcomed 250 guests into the Fry Family YMCA at 6:30 AM on December 1st, 2017 for the 13th Annual YMCA-Naperville Mayor’s Community Breakfast

The multi-denominational event is meant to celebrate the community and inspire attendees to believe in the importance of strengthening kids and families, community-anchoring institutions like the YMCA providing the opportunity for everyone to live up to their potential, and our common social responsibility for each other.  This time-honored tradition started with Mayor Pradel and has continued to be upheld by Mayor Chirico and the YMCA in partnership.

The inspirational program which was emceed by former Naperville YMCA Board Chair Tom Carroll featured Impact Speaker, IdaLynn Wenhold, a longtime member of the YMCA and Executive Director of KidsMatter.  She shared her personal story of moving to Naperville with three small children and getting involved in the start up of KidsMatter. She emphasized that we are all community and we all need to work together to keep it strong.

Mayor Steve Chirico welcomed everyone.  Mayor Emeritus, George Pradel, was also in attendance.  In addition to the speakers, a prayerful invocation was delivered by Haven Denson, a Naperville teen; the litany was led by Scott Mitchell, President and CEO of SamaraCare; and a traditional benediction was provided by Ray Jones.  Ray Jones, with his family business Friedrich-Jones Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, has generously sponsored this event since 2010.

The program was also highlighted by holiday musical performances by the School of Performing Arts. Liza Mahacek entertained us with beautiful renditions of the songs “Imagine” and “Let There be Peace on Earth”.  Liza is a senior at Waubonsie Valley High School.

Representatives from the city council, city administration, police department, school districts 203 and 204, chamber of commerce, local faith communities, non-profit communities and supporters of the YMCA were in attendance.  Before departing the entire audience joined in singing “Joy to the World” and celebrated the kickoff the holiday season in Naperville. Breakfast was provided by Belgio’s Catering.
