With more than 22 million children in the U.S. receiving free or reduced lunches during the school year but only 3.8 million having enough to eat during their breaks, one in six children are expected to go hungry this summer, unsure of where their next meal will come from.
Thanks to the Y’s Free Summer Food Program, last year more than 487,000 children were served nutritious meals and snacks, keeping them healthy and active all summer long.
This year, the Y is teaming up with the Walmart Foundation to provide more than 19 million free meals at participating YMCA centers and schools all over the U.S. to help put an end to child hunger.
