Through the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s robust Community Schools Initiative, funded in part by 21st Century Community Learning Centers, we collaborate with 12 Chicago Public Schools (CPS), 9 of which are federally funded, and other organizations to provide high-quality programs and services for students in grades K-8. On average, we serve 3,200 students and 650 adults per year in the Chicago area. Y-CSI programming includes: STEM, literacy, dance, theater, character development, financial literacy, healthy relationships, health and fitness, storytelling, incubation and embryology, chess, critical thinking and problem solving, sports and recreation and more; programming for parents includes GED, employability skills, dance, health and fitness and more.
President Donald Trump proposed eliminating all funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers at the U.S. Department of Education in his document titled, “America First: A Budget Blueprint to Make America Great Again” released on March 13. Please help the Y preserve funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers in the U.S. Department of Education’s FY2018 budget by sending your member of Congress a letter about the impact the Y is making in our communities
