Peace march held in memory of Urban Warrior Abner Garcia

About 125 people attended a peace march held for slain Urban Warrior Abner Garcia, who dedicated his life to ending violence."

A peace march was held August 21 to honor the life of 23-year-old Abner Garcia, a U.S. military vet and YSVP Urban Warrior mentor who fell victim to the very violence he sought to end. Learn more about Abner Garcia and the march in his honor from Mike Lowe of WGN-TV here.

Abner, who enlisted in the armed forces after high school and returned to Chicago in order to help at-risk youth, was killed in a random gang shooting. 

Miguel Arreola was one of his Urban Warrior mentees. “To me he was like a brother that I never had,” he said at the rally. “Thanks to him my life changed.”
