On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, the McCormick YMCA broke ground on a $9.4 million planned expansion scheduled to open in fall 2018. YMCA of Metro Chicago President and CEO Dick Malone, Sr. Executive Director David Rodriguez, Alderman Roberto Maldonado, David Hiller, President and CEO of the McCormick Foundation and Deputy Mayor Steve Koch spoke about the importance of making the aquatic center and swimming lessons accessible to children and adults in the Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Hermosa and nearby Wicker Park neighborhoods.
After a performance by the McCormick YMCA day camp children, a ceremonial sod-cutting was conducted outside the center on the south lawn, where the new expansion will be built.
