The Kroehler Family YMCA celebrated the 26th annual Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 29. Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families, is a reminder not to let children idle away their summer days. Games, prizes, and food at more than a dozen booths taught children about health and wellness.
While it was a rainy day outside, children and families enjoyed exploring a fire truck from Naperville Fire Department, answering trivia questions from College of DuPage nursing students, participating in a jumping jacks challenge and watching two dance recitals by YMCA program participants. A therapy dog from Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare was popular amongst the children. Most of the crowd were members of the Y, but the energy and balloons outside attracted passersby and children were excited to see what the celebration was all about.
Naperville Councilwoman Becky Anderson also attended the event and read books to children inside a classroom.
