On Wednesday, December 5, the YMCA of Metro Chicago hosted the fall 2018 Story Squad Showcase at The Revival. Story Squad, an audio storytelling program of the YMCA of Metro Chicago's Youth Safety and Violence Prevention initiative, empowers youth from the Humboldt Park, Pilsen/Little Village, Woodlawn, and South Chicago communities to channel their experiences through personal audio stories that are shared within their community and throughout the world.

Ta’Rhonda Jones, a Chicago native known for her role as Porsha Taylor on the television show Empire, served as the keynote. She shared her personal story and keys to success and inspired the youth to persevere. “Once you realize fear doesn't exist, you become unstoppable,” she shared. The Y presented her with an award for her contributions to youth development and storytelling. View a short clip of her speech on Instagram.

Robbie Nova, who is from New York City, also joined the youth for a special performance that brought the crowd to its feet.
