About Our Swim Lesson Offerings
Swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise and a challenging sport. We offer swim lessons (for all ages) and adaptive swim programs for kids with special needs, so we can all safely enjoy the pleasures of an aquatic environment. Whether it’s learning how to swim, perfecting your stroke or staying fit, the Y has a swim lesson program that’s right for you.
Group Parent Child Swim
(Ages 6 months to 3 years) Promotes water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child's self-confidence. Parents learn from the instructor's example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise. So let's just pool it!
There are four levels based on developmental abilities:
- Shrimps (6-8mos) Child can control their head and sit with support from the hands.
- Kippers (9-12mos) Child can sit without hand support and stand with support from the hands.
- Inias (13-18mos) Child can stand without support and walk with or without support or aid.
- Perch (19-36mos) Child can run and jump. Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

This class is for the more advanced beginner who is already comfortable in the water, but is ready to take it to the next step.
We also offer advanced swim clinics, private and semi-private swim lessons, classes for individuals with diverse abilities, water fitness classes and more. See our full list of current offerings below.
