Sage Y Preschool
At the Sage YMCA, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. At this early age, “play” is a child’s most important form of learning and development. We provide activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self image and develop social relationships with other children.
GOALS
- To nurture and teach social and emotional readiness; the process by which children learn problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution
- To promote physical development; achieving gross motor control and fine motor coordination
- To provide opportunities for children to explore their creativity through multi-sensory art experiences
- To create a language-rich environment that promotes and fosters a love of reading
Curriculum
Our curriculum offers your child many opportunities to make decisions and to grow in their independence. Monthly themes are designed around basic skills, letters and continents. Each child's language is enhanced through the use of music, finger plays and dramatic play. During our art and craft activities, children can explore numerous ways of expressing their creativity. Academic skills are worked into daily curriculum, which help prepare children for Kindergarten. Learn more about a typical day at Sage Y Preschool.

Children registering for Preschool can be a Member* or Non-Member. $50.00 deposit is due at registration. This is non-refundable and will be applied to your first tuition payment. Tuition is paid monthly and is due the first of each month, totaling nine payments per school year. Registration must be done in-person at the Member Service Desk.
*Sage YMCA Membership is not required at registration but, to recieve member rates, your child will need a membership by August 1, 2012.
All children must be toilet trained (no pull-ups).
A DAY IN PRESCHOOL
- Opening Circle Welcome song, days of the week, calendar and The Pledge of Allegiance are done at the start of each day. Each child is then greeted and asked a question pertaining to our theme. This encourages language development, listening skills and taking turns.
- Activity Time Children are given the opportunity to choose, explore and discover all areas of the classroom. Teachers invite children to work with them either one on one or in a small group to focus on fine motor, cognitive, language, math development, science or arts & crafts.
- Music Circle Encourages children to have fun singing songs, finger plays, playing instruments and moving & dancing to music.
- Snack Time Healthy individual pre-packed snack and 100% juice boxes are provided each day. Each month we will learn a new prayer and this will be recited before snack time.
- Story Time A quiet time to listen and enjoy stories, books on tape, felt board activities and puppets. Children are encouraged to retell stories and answer questions about the stories.
- Gym/Gross Motor Development The development of large muscles will take place with a wide variety of activities. Playground, bikes, balls, scooters, balance beam and many other items are used to enhance growth. Sportsmanship is taught through a variety of games and relays.
- Swim Lessons Swim lessons are designed to give children the skills they need to learn the fundamentals of swimming, water and boating safety. Our goal is to create a pleasant, fun atmosphere while developing self confidence in the water. Weekly lessons are included in the curriculum and options are available for preschool without swimming.
