The Sage YMCA Piranhas Swim Team embraces the core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Furthermore, the team seeks to provide opportunities for social and emotional development, a physical and recreational outlet, and an atmosphere of good sportsmanship, teamwork and fun for all.

The Piranhas Swim Team is for swimmers of all abilities, from ages 5-21. Our dedicated and experienced coaches will provide each swimmer with the maximum opportunity for development.
All new swimmers must attend a try-out. Coaches will then make group recommendations based on age, ability and availability. Please contact Stacey McNamara at 815.526.1636 with any questions.
Practice Groups: Prerequisites, Descriptions & Times
The Short Course swimming season runs roughly the 30 weeks from September through the end of February.
|Little Piranhas||Novice swimmers up to 12 years of age. Must be able to complete 25 Free and 25 Back. The developmental team bridging the end of lessons to the introduction of competitive swimming.||Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 - 7:30pm|
|Red||New competitive swimmers up to age 12 who can legally perform all four strokes.||Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 6:30 - 7:30pm|
|White||Experienced swimmers, 9-13, proficient in all strokes.||Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 7:30-8:30pm|
|Blue||Swimmers of at least 12 years of age exploring their competitive possibilities.||Mondays - Friday 5:00 - 6:30pm|
|National||Elite swimmers dedicated to advanced accomplishments through maturity, focus & commitment.||Monday - Friday, 3:30-5:00pm|
The Sage Y Piranhas take part in both YMCA and USA Swimming competitions. All team members must be Sage YMCA Members and registered members of USA Swimming. The fee to join USA Swimming is $60 and will be collected at the start of the season.
Payment plans are available upon request. Payment plans require 50% down at the time of registration.

Coach Stacey has been swimming competitively since the age of 8. She swam park district (DuPage Swim & Dive Conference) for 10 years where her team voted her the most spirited. She also swam at Fenton High School for 3 years. There wasn't a swim team her freshman year and she, with family & friends, started the high school team. She was named team captain for 2 years and most valuable swimmer for 2 years; she also held several school records, including 1 meter springboard diving. After high school, Stacey swam NCAA Division 3 at Knox College for 4 years. She was the first woman to swim the 1650 at Knox and held several school records. Most recently, Stacey swam for the Buehler Blue Marlins Masters Team and competed in the state meet in 2012. She has also completed 4 sprint triathlons, including a relay team.
In addition to competitive swimming, Stacey has taught American Red Cross and YMCA Swim Lessons to swimmers for over 20 years. Her students were as young as 6 months old and as old as 80. She loves to teach technique. Stacey has been a certified YMCA coach for over 2 years. Most recently, Stacey was certified as a Level 1 YMCA Swim Official and a USA Swimming Coach.

Coach Ed was the head coach for the Palatine girls swim program for 32 years! Not only is he an accomplished swimmer himself , but has coached numerous great swimmers that have gone on to be division, conference and state champions.
Ed has won sectional coach of the year 15 times and has one the National Coaching Achievement Award twice. Recently, he has been inducted into the Illinois Swimming Hall of Fame. Ed has never coached for any of these accolades. He has done it for the love of the sport, the challenge of the training, and the dedication to his athletes.

|Shannon Janeczko||Assistant Coach||Shannon has been swimming as a Piranha for the last five years and will begin her coaching career this season, working with the Copper and Bronze groups.|
|Claire Mollitor||Assistant Coach||Claire is a National swimmer who has been with the Piranhas for four years. Claire will be coaching the Little Piranhas this season.|
