YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago Hosts Foglia YMCA Grand Reveal

January 20, 2015

Lake Zurich, IL. – The transformation of the Foglia YMCA is now complete and it’s time for the Lake Zurich, Barrington and neighboring communities to celebrate the end of the major renovation, which has doubled the size of this community anchor’s gymnasium and added exciting new programming space for all ages.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is pleased to announce that the celebrations can now begin at the new, expanded Foglia YMCA.  The entire community is invited to join the YMCA and tour the improvements and many program offerings at the Foglia YMCA Grand Reveal on January 23, 2015, at 6 p.m. at 1025 N. Old McHenry Road, Lake Zurich, IL.

The transformation of the Foglia YMCA proves that the Y is so much more than “swim and gym.”

“The expansion of the Foglia YMCA reflects the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s investment to developing strong children, adults and families in our community,” said Richard Malone, president and CEO, YMCA of Metro Chicago. “We are grateful to the Foglia Family Foundation, Steve Sorenson of our Board of Managers and the civic leaders who have supported the growth of the Foglia Y.”

The new Foglia Y now boasts two gymnasiums, a new climbing wall, new basketball court and two new multi-purpose program spaces – all part of a 9,000 square-foot expansion that accommodates the growing needs of the community.

The footprint of the existing gym has increased so that more members and families can take advantage of fitness classes, early childhood development programs, meetings and other programs.

The Foglia Y expansion marks major milestones for the YMCA of Metro Chicago.  This project was made possible through the generous contributions of philanthropists Vince and Pat Foglia, the Foglia YMCA Board and community and civic leaders.

Steve Sorenson, a member of the YMCA Board of Managers and an executive vice president at Allstate Insurance, joins Malone, the Foglia family and others in celebrating the end of the expansion project.

“The additional space is great for the Foglia YMCA and for the surrounding community,” said Sorenson. “With the extra gym space, we can provide more programs for kids and teens and can also accommodate local businesses and community groups for meetings in the new classrooms. When combined with our existing space, there’s no other facility like Foglia YMCA in the area,” he added.

The Foglia Y Grand Reveal offers something for everyone: a program fair, mini-fitness classes, family dodgeball, open swim and other fun.
