Sage YMCA Hosts “Sneak Peek” of Expanded, Renovated Facilities in Crystal Lake

August 15, 2014

For the past year, Sage YMCA leaders have asked their members to “pardon our dust” while the center undergoes major renovations that will nearly triple its size. Now, with significant progress being made, they are eager to showcase the new facilities and invite the community to an exciting “Sneak Peek” on Thursday, August 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  Sage YMCA is located at 701 Manor Road in Crystal Lake.

The center’s new education wing, fitness center, café and community gathering spaces will be unveiled during the event. The education wing features a separate entrance and drive-up configuration for safer and easy drop-off and pick-up of children. Preschoolers and their parents are invited to check out the three new classrooms, as part of the Y’s “Back to Class” event, and to meet the new director of Early Learning Sally Oginni. Tours will also be offered of the new cycle studio, and the women’s and men’s locker rooms.

Visitors will get “sneak peeks” of three new and nearly finished Sage Y spaces:  the group fitness studio; the larger and brighter Family Changing Center, including private changing areas; and the eight-lane competition swimming pool and observation area, which remain under construction. This past winter’s Polar Vortex affected the Sage Y’s construction schedule, and the Crystal Lake facility is expected to be complete in November 2014, expanding the facility from 29,000 square feet to 71,000 square feet.

“We are so thrilled to be able to share these new facilities with our members, neighbors, businesses and the community at large,” said Robyn Ostrem, executive director of Sage YMCA.  “We can hardly wait for parents to see our new classrooms, and for members to use the new fitness center. They have been patiently following our progress, and they’ll be rewarded with so many new features and amenities to enhance their visits.”
YMCA of Metro Chicago president and CEO Dick Malone, philanthropists Vincent and Patricia Foglia and family, donors, community leaders, members and other supporters will be present to celebrate this milestone in the renovation project.

Everyone is invited to the program fair to learn about fall class offerings, including the new Y MaxTraining, preschool programming, swim lessons, and enjoy free samples from the Tropical Smoothie Café, a new vendor coming soon to the Sage YMCA.
