April 23, 2012 — The Y of Metro Chicago is making it that much easier to get fit this spring by offering free enrollment when you join the Y between April 28 and May 12. As an added incentive, come in the first day – April 28th – during Healthy Kids Day activities, and receive an additional $100 in Y bucks to put toward program, class or camp fees.

March 12, 2012 — Representatives from the American Beverage Association (ABA) and Illinois Beverage Association were joined today by State Senator Tony Munoz, State Representative Eddie Acevedo, Alderman Danny Solis, Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele and other community leaders at the Rauner Family YMCA to formerly recognize the Y as the recipient of a coveted $50,000 grant from the ABA.

February 01, 2012 — There’s still time to commit to being a healthier you in 2012! YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago member centers have extended their New Year’s deals and will waive enrollment fees to new members through February 6, and provide new members with $100 Y bucks that can be used for Y programs.

October 26, 2011 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago today announced that the organization is moving forward on an extensive due diligence process with Holsten Real Estate Development Corporation for the potential purchase of the Lawson House YMCA at 30 W. Chicago Avenue. Lawson House is the largest single-room occupancy (SRO) supportive housing facility in the Midwest, providing housing and social services for residents. A non-negotiable component of the deal is that the potential buyer must be committed to preserving affordable housing with supportive services for an extended period of time.

July 13, 2011 — When the school year ends, so do free meals for the millions of children in low-income households who depend on them most. Through a $127,500 grant from YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) and the Walmart Foundation in collaboration with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Catholic Charities and Chicago Public Schools, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago will be able to provide nutritious meals and snacks to over 2,000 youth each day at 17 locations citywide this summer. The national Summer Food Service Program, run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), provides free meals to children aged 18 and under while school is out of session. Nationally, more than 300 Ys will provide 7 million meals to 70,000 children this summer.

April 03, 2011 — Effective tomorrow, March 17, 2011, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago takes ownership of the former YMCA of McHenry County. The Y of Metro Chicago purchased the McHenry County Y building, equipment and land in Crystal Lake as part of an Asset Purchase Agreement following the McHenry County Y filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.
