May 09, 2012 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago hosted the second annual Scholastic Spectacular, a night of trivia and entertainment from participants in its Community Schools Initiative – students faced off in front of a packed auditorium of cheering classmates, teachers, family members and Y supporters at the Chicago History Museum.
April 23, 2012 — The Y of Metro Chicago is making it that much easier to get fit this spring by offering free enrollment when you join the Y between April 28 and May 12. As an added incentive, come in the first day – April 28th – during Healthy Kids Day activities, and receive an additional $100 in Y bucks to put toward program, class or camp fees.
March 26, 2012 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago was recognized as a 2012 Laureate by IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.
March 12, 2012 — Representatives from the American Beverage Association (ABA) and Illinois Beverage Association were joined today by State Senator Tony Munoz, State Representative Eddie Acevedo, Alderman Danny Solis, Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele and other community leaders at the Rauner Family YMCA to formerly recognize the Y as the recipient of a coveted $50,000 grant from the ABA.
March 07, 2012 — Visit Y of Metro Chicago locations across the city and suburbs on Friday, March 16 or Saturday, March 17 and join for just $17, and the rest of the month of March is free!
February 01, 2012 — There’s still time to commit to being a healthier you in 2012! YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago member centers have extended their New Year’s deals and will waive enrollment fees to new members through February 6, and provide new members with $100 Y bucks that can be used for Y programs.
January 12, 2012 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago will launch a week-long, Metro-wide food drive on Martin Luther King Jr., Day to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) and the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
December 07, 2011 — United States Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin and Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Commissioner Dr. Bechara Choucair visited the McCormick Tribune YMCA to acknowledge the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting healthy lifestyles, and to recognize the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago for taking a lead role in making Chicago a healthier city.
November 17, 2011 — Don’t be stuck inside with nowhere to go and nothing to do this winter! The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago offers a number of winter camp options for youth during their holiday vacations.
November 03, 2011 — Dorothy Cole-Gary, senior operations director for children services at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, has been named the 2012 National Head Start Association Administrator of the Year.
October 26, 2011 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago today announced that the organization is moving forward on an extensive due diligence process with Holsten Real Estate Development Corporation for the potential purchase of the Lawson House YMCA at 30 W. Chicago Avenue. Lawson House is the largest single-room occupancy (SRO) supportive housing facility in the Midwest, providing housing and social services for residents. A non-negotiable component of the deal is that the potential buyer must be committed to preserving affordable housing with supportive services for an extended period of time.
July 13, 2011 — When the school year ends, so do free meals for the millions of children in low-income households who depend on them most. Through a $127,500 grant from YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) and the Walmart Foundation in collaboration with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Catholic Charities and Chicago Public Schools, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago will be able to provide nutritious meals and snacks to over 2,000 youth each day at 17 locations citywide this summer. The national Summer Food Service Program, run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), provides free meals to children aged 18 and under while school is out of session. Nationally, more than 300 Ys will provide 7 million meals to 70,000 children this summer.

June 04, 2011 — The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago today hosted a celebration commemorating the dedication of the Sage YMCA of Metro Chicago, formerly the YMCA of McHenry County in recognition of a generous donation from the Foglia Family Foundation.
April 03, 2011 — Effective tomorrow, March 17, 2011, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago takes ownership of the former YMCA of McHenry County. The Y of Metro Chicago purchased the McHenry County Y building, equipment and land in Crystal Lake as part of an Asset Purchase Agreement following the McHenry County Y filing for bankruptcy earlier this year.
