Choosing the Right Camp for Your Child
The Y of Metropolitan Chicago offers a variety of camping options. Do your best select the right camp to make sure your child has the best experience possible.
We recommend answering the following questions when selecting a camp:
- What are your child's interests?
- Do you want your child to learn a special skill?
- Do you want the camp to emphasize the values you teach at home?
- What is the experience and training of the camp director and the camp counselors?
- How does the camp encourage positive behavior and teamwork? How is problem behavior handled?
- Is your child ready for overnight camp? Has he or she ever spent a night away from home? How does it help kids cope with separation from their parents?
- How does the camp work with children requiring special diets, medication or accommodations?
Remember to involve your child in camp decisions and preparations.
