Q: What makes the camp experience at YMCA Family Camp Pinewood unique?
A: Family Camp Pinewood offers a build-your-own experience, so it has something for everyone! Your family and friends from around the globe, or right next door will build stronger connections with nature and each other as you take aim at archery, climb the rockwall, hike in the woods, and swim in the lake.
Q: What activites do campers participate in during a typical day at YMCA Family Camp Pinewood?
A: Family Camp Pinewood has activities for all ages. Families may spend the morning practicing their aim at archery and slingshot or climbing to the sky at the rockwall, zipline, and high ropes course. In the afternoon, they may go for a nature hike, take a dip in the lake, spend time fishing, or out on a canoe.
Q: How do families benefit from time at Family Camp?
A: Time spent at Family Camp Pinewood is time spent connecting with each other. Families get to try new experiences while create lasting memories. Whether having a friendly fishing competition on the shores of Echo Lake or laughing together around a campfire, time together is one of the most valuable resources provided by Camp Pinewood.
Q: Is Camp Pinewood just a summer place?
A: No — visit Family Camp Pinewood year-round! West Michigan is a beautiful place to visit and provides a unique experience in every season. Swimming in the summer, watching the leaves change color in the fall, cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter, and bird watching in the spring. In addition to the adventures at Camp Pinewood, we are a perfect location to be a home base while exploring all of West Michigan. We are just a short drive to Lake Michigan, Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, Michigan Adventures, Sliver Lake Sand Dunes, or some of Michigan’s best events like Tulip Time Festival or Coast Guard Festival.
Q: What camp experience are you most excited to share with campers?
A: We always look forward to the opportunities provided to our camper to make a new friend. Often, friendships are built in neighborhoods, schools, work, sports, etc. Camp give an opportunity to meet people from all over Chicagoland, across the Midwest, and around the world. Campers can leave camp having met and developed friendships with people they will know for the rest of their lives.
Q: What piece of advice would you give to new campers?
A: Be open to trying something new. You may stink at it. You may be a natural pro. But just be open to trying it with your whole self. Meet all the people you can, even those outside of your cabin group. Be goofy, and don’t worry about what the people around you think. You are here for you, and those that share that mentality will come along with you on your journey.
