The Y has fitness classes specifically designed for older adults. They give participants an opportunity to stay physically active or in some cases, to overcome their fear of exercise and begin being physically active.
Y Active Older Adult Fitness programs accommodate a wide variety of interests and functional abilities of older adults. Active Older Adults classes include Super Senior Aerobic classes, Strength and Conditioning, Gentle Pilates, Yoga, Swimming, Aqua Aerobics and Silver Sneakers.
Functional Fitness – A class designed for the active mature adult, post-rehab, and/or individuals wishing to improve their strength, flexibility, coordination and balance in everyday activities. A variety of resistance equipment will be used.
Silver Sneakers® MSROM-Muscular Strength & Range of Movement- A variety of exercises designed to improve activity for daily living skills using hand held weights, resistance bands and a ball either standing or sitting.
SilverSneakers® CC- Cardio Circuit- Resistance training using a variety of equipment is alternated with cardio intervals. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.
Yoga Stretch®- Move your body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support offered.
ZUMBA Gold- A lower intensity version of ZUMBA perfect for the active older adult or those just beginning to exercise.
SilverSplash®- A low-intensity aquatic workout that uses special equipment for water exercise. This class is free to all members and is sponsored by Humana
Aqua Zumba- Known as the Zumba "pool party", Aqua Zumba blends spicy Latin rhythms and high-energy international music into safe, challenging, invigorating workouts that are cardio-conditioning, body-toning and, most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.
YMCA Arthritis Foundation- This program is for people with joint mobility issues. Must provide a signed physician's consent form. All participants must have water shoes.
