Course Information

When does the first wave start?

The first wave begins at 7:00 a.m.

 

Can I wear my wetsuit in the pool?

Wetsuits are not allowed in our pools.

 

What is the temperature of the water I will be swimming in?

The West Pool temperature is 83 degrees. The East Pool temperature is 79 degrees.

 

Do I need to wear a swim cap for my swim?

All participants are required to wear a swim cap. Swim cap will be provided by Leaning Tower YMCA.

 

Do I have to wear a helmet while biking?

USAT rules require that each athlete wear a helmet at all times. Athletes are required to secure their helmets before mounting their bikes and cannot un-secure the helmet until after they have dismounted from the bike.

 

Am I allowed to use a personal music system while biking or running?

Athletes are not allowed to use any sort of personal music system. No exceptions.

 

Where will the aid stations be and what will be offered?

Aid stations will be located on Natchez Rd and on Merrimac Rd at the run turn around point. Each aid station will be fully supported by volunteers handing out water and Heed Sports Energy Drink by Hammer Nutrition . First Aid supplies are available if needed.

 

Where can I find a map of the race course?

Swim/Bike/Run routes are available in the Course section of the website.

 

Entry

How do I find out if there are still entries available and if so, how do I sign up?

Go to the registration section of the website to register for the race.

 

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds for the Tower Triathlon. There are also no transfers or deferrals.

 

What are the age requirements?

Athletes must be at least 15 years of age.

 

What age group will I race in on race day?

According to the USAT rule, athletes will race in the age group corresponding to the athletes age on December 31st the year of the race.

 

When can I sign up for next year’s race?

Registration opens on February 1st.

 

Who do I contact if my registration information needs to be updated?

General

What items will I receive for my registration?

Athletes will receive a goody bag including a race t-shirt at packet pickup, as well as a finisher’s medal after crossing the finish line.

 

What refreshments will there be in the Athlete Refreshment tent?

Usually a variety of fruit, bagels, granola bars, Heed Sports Energy Drink by Hammer Nutrition and water are found in the Athlete Refreshment tent.

 

When and where is packet pick up? Will there be race day packet pick up?

Packet pickup will be available on Friday, May 19, 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 20, 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Race day packet pick up will not be available. Packet pickup will be located in the Aerobic Studio Room at the Leaning Tower YMCA. The address is 6300 W Touhy, Niles, IL 60714.

Spectator Information

What are the distances for the Tower Triathlon?

The Tower Triathlon consists of a 450 yard swim, 18k bike and 5k run.

 

Can I take my car on the course to watch my athlete?

No, for safety reasons we ask that you not attempt to follow your athlete by car. The best place for spectators to see their athlete is by the transition area and finish line or along Melvina Rd.

 

Where can I find a schedule of events for race week?

A schedule of events for race week will be located on the site homepage.

 

Where can I park on race day?

The Leaning Tower YMCA parking lots are closed on race day. The best locations for parking are located in the Costco or Target parking lots located on the opposite side of Melvina Rd. right across from the Leaning Tower YMCA.

 

Timing

What timing system is used for the race?

ChampionChip Timing Systems are used on race day.

 

I didn’t turn my chip in on race day. Where can I return to avoid being charged the “lost chip” fee?
