Operation Turkey Drop
Friday November 9, 2012
WHAT: We will be preparing Thanksgiving dinner boxes for families in need. Bring
canned goods from the list below to fill your box plus have fun decorating the box
with your family or scout troop. You are welcome to include an encouraging note for
your sponsored family. We will also be making some Thanksgiving crafts to give
and to keep.
THANKSGIVING DINNER BOX LIST:
Items listed below include examples. Please include as many items on the list as
you can. Feel free to substitute or include a family recipe if it is fairly simple and
made from canned ingredients.
Stuffing Mix – Stovetop Turkey or Cornbread flavor
Candied Yams – Some companies make candied ones. Can be mixed with
plain to make it less sweet or add brown sugar to plain ones.
Green Bean Casserole – 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 2 cans green
beans, 1 can French fried onion rings
Canned Vegetables – peas, corn, peas & carrots, etc.
 Corn Bread or Biscuit mix
Cranberry Sauce – Jellied or whole cranberries
 Gravy – Canned turkey gravy
Dessert of your choice (optional) – a boxed mix of some sort
Turkey* – while we can’t put a turkey in the box, the cost to cover a
modest turkey is about $20. If it is within your budget and heart to
include a gift certificate to a grocery store, please do.
* Please no fresh or frozen turkeys - we cannot accept them as we do not have the facilities to store them.

Join us for our 10th annual Operation Turkey drop event! In 2016, we were able to help more than 40 area families have a better Thanksgiving. We will be preparing Thanksgiving dinner boxes for families in need. Please bring a box and canned goods to fill your dinner box (a link to a list of recommended items can be found below). We will be decorating the boxes, creating greeting cards for the recipients and making some Thanksgiving crafts to give and to keep. This is an ideal event for young scout troops and a great way to teach children about giving and community.
