Meet the one and only Owen C.!
When asked to describe himself in one word, Owen C., a determined 6-year old boy replied, “Crash!” Why? “Because I like to crash into things!”
The YMCA has served as a place for Owen to gain strength and have fun for the past few years. You can find Owen walking around the track or in the pool a few times a week. He has taken swim lessons from Roberta Flanders (“Ms. R”) who challenges him on a weekly basis to work on his coordination and mobility skills in the water. Currently, Owen his working on retrieving toys from the stairs in the pool. Ms. R places the toys on the stairs, and Owen is given the task to reclaim them. However, being his mischievous self, Owen slyly claims that he has found a way for Ms. R to “do all the work”. What does Owen do? “I get the toys and then drop them to the bottom, so Ms. R has to get them!” The pool is a place where Owen is “happy…because swimming is fun!”
Owen enjoys coming to the YMCA with his caretaker, Ms. Holly, and eating lunch and “just hanging out” in the Member Lobby. He enjoys seeing his friends at the YMCA and likes obstacle courses and bounce houses. Owen is a loving, energetic and playful “joke teller” who enjoys field trips and ghost videos.
If you have the opportunity to meet Owen (or he chooses to “crash” into you!), you will soon find his smile infectious and yourself quickly laughing at one of his jokes. We are proud to have him in our YMCA family!
