Meet Indian Boundary YMCA member, Sister Loretta Glanz. Sister Loretta has been a member since 1989 and was originally a member of the Galowich Family YMCA in Joliet. She moved to Downers Grove and to her delight saw a heavenly sign that said, Indian Boundary YMCA, and as fate would have it, it was only two miles from where she lived. She is part of the YMCA’s Silver Sneakers program, and takes two Silver Sneaker classes a week and two water aerobics classes each week as well. She especially enjoys taking water classes with Roberta and Nick. What she likes best about the Y is the variety of classes and the friendships she has made over the years. She says that coming to the Y each week keeps her healthy and feeling energized. She feels that the staff and instructors are all very friendly and she would tell people that they should join the YMCA to feel better, get healthy, have fun and make new friends. Sister Loretta has another reason why she likes the YMCA. As the principal at St. Pat’s Elementary school in Joliet, her PE instructor resigned abruptly and the Galowich Family YMCA came to her rescue, providing her with a PE instructor named Jay Martin and allowing her students to use the Y swimming pool for swim classes. Sister Loretta is semi-retired and still teaches classes at St. Mary’s in Plainfield and at All Saints Catholic Academy in Naperville. Coming to the Y has become a habit for Sister Loretta and it is one she does not foresee breaking anytime soon.
