New Age Policy For Fitness Centers Effective Jan. 1, 2017

December 20, 2016

Minimum age increases to 13 years"

We recently replaced many pieces of equipment in our Fitness Centers. Unfortunately, due to changes in industry standards we are mandated to increase the minimum age of youth that are allowed to be in the Fitness Centers and use the equipment. Effective January 1, 2017, all youth must be 13 years old.

This also means that youth who are age 12, even with a current Fit Pass will no longer be eligible to use the Fitness Rooms and equipment. Youth 8-12 years old may attend select Group Fitness classes with a parent or guardian actively supervising. Family Friendly classes will be defined on our Group Fitness schedules.

We apologize for any disappointment and inconvenience that this new policy will cause. Our hope is that you will understand that we want to make the Y a safe environment for all. If you would like to discuss this further you may send an email to our Senior Program Director Robin Conrad at rconrad@ymcachicago.org
