It’s a known fact that people who exercise together have a higher probability of staying motivated, training harder and achieving their personal fitness goals. When you work out at the Y with friends, you’re part a community of passionate people who train, work and play with purpose.
To help you get a jump start on your New Year’s health resolutions, we’re opening the Fry Family YMCA to the community* on Tuesdays in November. If you decide to join the Y that day, we’ll waive your joiner fee.

Committing to working out with a friend means being accountable. You’re more likely to travel a few L stops out of your way to hit the gym when you know that someone is waiting for you to come try a new group fitness class.
Motivating yourself comes naturally when you train with someone else. A study conducted by the University of Michigan in 2012 found that women who exercised with a more fit partner were twice as motivated and able to exercise for twice as long as peers who trained solo.
Saving your back is as simple as having a spotter. A friend can check your form, keep count of your reps and encourage you to power through the end of a set.
Learning new moves keeps your workout fresh. That one-legged squat you’re too wobbly to attempt? Your friend can balance you. That medicine ball toss that backfires into your face? Your friend can throw it instead. That ab circuit you’ve been doing since 2013? You get the idea.

*Each guest is limited to 3 guest pass visits per calendar year and then may purchase a membership. Guests must be 11 years old to be or bring a guest. Guests do not need to be accompanied by a member to visit. All guests must present a valid ID and sign a facility waiver.
