Deep in Naperville hidden away on Schoger Drive is a gem any athlete would be lucky to encounter. That is where the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago Y Sports Complex is located, and it just so happens Dareon Spencer and Samuel Franklin, the resident basketball coaches, have an amazing opportunity for young athletes. The two are available to coach basketball players of all ages and abilities to hone their skills to become the best athletes they can be.
Dareon and Sam are well versed in the competitive sports world. Both have played basketball during their high school years, and continued playing on into college. Both are incredibly dedicated to their sport while both having different skill sets to offer to others.
Training sessions with Sam or Dareon comes with the expectations that the athlete will work. Each session is an hour of high intensity training that is based off the athlete’s ability and skill. Training on coordination, such as footwork and ball handling is to be expected as well as various game scenarios to maximize their potential.
At the end of each session, the coaches ask the athlete to remember at least one aspect of the session to take home and practice. This helps with lesson progression to see a growth in skill.
Sam and Dareon believe that the key benefit to one-on-one training is that the attention is on the athlete. It is a customized, personal workout that makes it easier for the coach to critique, and customize.
Currently, the only sports offered in the one-on-one training are basketball and volleyball. However, Advanced Personal Training one-on-ones will be available soon. These sessions will be all about body resistance exercises, helping athletes get better, faster, and stronger.
