September Member Spotlight: Sharon Tolomei & Jennette Clayton, Mother and Daughter team!

We are a mother/daughter team that have made a commitment to fitness and staying healthy.  I (Sharon) have been retired for almost three years and Jennette is a stay at home mom with four girls, ages 2, 4, 6, and 9.

About three and a half years ago, Jennette and I joined the Weight Loss Wars (now Active 8) Challenge. I was still working at the time, so we attended evening classes.  This was the beginning of our fitness partnership.  We have since joined the weight loss challenge every year and take a variety of fitness classes together several times a week.  However, now that I am retired, we mostly attend day classes.

Our relationship as mother and daughter coupled with our common fitness goals make our workouts fun and a time we look forward to.  Catching up during a workout is much better than a phone call or text.  We are also each other’s motivator and accountability partner.  Sometimes it’s hard to put on your shoes and get out the door, but when you know that your partner is expecting you, it happens.  And despite how tired we may be afterward, we’re never sorry we went.

Jennette and I have not achieved all our fitness goals, and sometimes we find ourselves backsliding a little.  Regardless, we know that tomorrow is always another day, so we tie up our shoes, and our fitness partner and the Fogia YMCA is there waiting.

We love the variety of fitness classes the YMCA offers, and the instructors are great.  They are knowledgeable, challenge us to work hard, and build camaraderie among the participants.  The YMCA is also very family friendly, and provides a safe atmosphere for the girls while we are working out. Our plan is to keep on doing what we are doing.

We have made progress, and perseverance is key.
