If you are taking the time to read this that means you are determined to achieve your health and fitness goals. Determination should not be underestimated. If you provide the determination, the Elmhurst YMCA Personal Training team will provide the motivation!

Losing weight and looking great is a three part process: 

  1. Nutrition
  2. Weight Training
  3. Cardiovascular Activity

You need to be working on all three of these areas in order to see results. For example, think of all the times you have decided to go on a diet. If you were determined enough to stick to the diet, you lost weight, but eventually you hit a plateau. How did you get past this plateau? Weight training combined with cardiovascular activity and good nutrition is the key!

Services

Fitness Assessment

Each assessment includes a health screening that consist of blood pressure and resting heart rate measurements. This screening is followed by testing for body composition, circumference, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength. A computer report assessing your fitness level is also provided. Please allow one hour for your evaluation.

Fee: Member $25/Program Member $50

Personal Training

How do you know what exercises to do, what machines to use, how much weight and how many repetitions, how often to weight train, what the proper form is to prevent injury and produce optimal results? The answer: Personal Training!

Cardiovascular Activity

Many people have the philosophy that with cardio ‘the harder, the better.’ Does this sound familiar? You may be surprised to learn you are training too hard. People who train to hard are in great cardiovascular shape, but are not working at a level that promotes fat loss. So, how do you determine your optimal intensity, duration, frequency?

The answer: Cardio Coach!

Cardio Coach

This service is designed to take the guess work out of your cardio sessions. During this one-hour session, you will be placed on both a treadmill and stationary bike for roughly 20 minutes each. Information will be collected about your heart rate and perceived rate of exertion while you are walking/jogging/biking. At the end of the session, you will be given a customized cardio program which will include your target heart rate range (the range in which you should perform all cardio activity between in order to burn the optimal amount of fat) and provide answers to activity type, duration, and intensity, enabling you to be as efficient as possible during each and every session of cardio.

Nutrition

South Beach, Atkins, the Zone, Sugar Busters, with all the different weight loss plans out there how does anyone manage to have a well-balanced diet. With nutrition weighing in at 70% of the weight loss equation, this is an area you definitely cannot afford to ignore. How do you separate food fact from myth? Should you be concerned with calories, fat, or carbs? What about portion sizes, frequency of meals, and fluid needs?

The answer: Diet Analysis!

Diet Analysis

This service includes a one-hour face-to-face meeting where we will discuss your goals, current diet (you submit a three-day food journal), food likes and dislikes, lifestyle, and obstacles. This analysis will also include grocery shopping list, eating out tips, and sample meal plans.
