Spring Hockey 2014 

YMCA youth hockey divisions are no check

Registration Going on Now at the Front Desk

The Elmhurst YMCA will be conducting an eight week spring hockey session starting on March 22nd and ending on May 18th.  The league will play at the carol stream ice arena, which is approximetly nice miles west of the Y.  Games will be played on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons/early evenings.  There will be no weekday practice.


To keep cost down, we will not be providing jerseys.  All players should bring a light and drak jersey and we will provide penny pullovers.  The spring league is a no check house league geared toward the house league player.  Please note there will be no games on April 19-20th  (Easter Weekend)


Space is limited so please sign up early.  Players should sign up for the division they will be playing in next fall.  For your convenience we have attached the schedule for the entire spring season.

Skate School

Skate Rental for Skate school classes $1 per child per class.

Tot (age 3-5): No skating ability necessary for this class.

Pre-alpha (age 6-12): No skating ability necessary for this class.

Alpha (age 6-13): Must pass the pre-alpha test and consistently be able to march, glide on one and two feet, do backward wiggles and forward and backward swizzles.

Beta (age 6-13): Must pass the alpha test and consistently do backward stroking, forward left and right crossovers and a snowplow stop.

Advanced Skating Classes

Skate rental for skate school classes $1 per child per class.

Gamma: Must pass a beta test and consistently do backward stroking left and right, left and right backward crossovers, and left and right t-stops.

Delta: Must pass Gamma test and consistently do left and right inside and outside 3-turns, a lunge and a bunny jump.

Freestyle: All freestyle students must pass all levels of skating.

YOUTH HOCKEY LEAGUE – We play for fun!

The YMCA Youth Hockey League is no check and is designed to teach the great game of hockey to boys and girls age 6-15. The emphasis is on improving the player's skills and having fun! All games are played at the Elmhurst YMCA. Typically they will have a practice during the week and a game on the weekend. There will be a few weekday games late in the season. Equal ice time for all players is guaranteed. All players are required to be able to skate. House league begins evaluations on November 4th.(schedules will be given out at time of registration)

NEW TIME: Mondays, 4:50-5:35PM (you can register for both days!)

An introduction to hockey fun for both boys and girls. A YMCA staff directed curriculum of learning and fun with an emphasis on beginning hockey skating and stick skills. Child must be able to skate forward. Required equipment: hockey skates, heavy gloves, shin guards, elbow pads, regulation helmet with a face mask and hockey stick.

Hockey Equipment

All players in the youth hockey league are required to wear hockey skates, shoulder pads, regulation helmet, face mask, mouth guard, neck guard, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey socks, hockey pnats, shin guards, cup and supporter. Goalie equipment is furnished by the YMCA. All players will receive a hockey jersey and socks once the teams are formed.

NEW! Midget Hockey (16-17 year old)

This program is designed for the player who aged out of our House league but would like to continue playing hockey. This is a no check scrimmage that takes place once a week. Bring a light and dark jersey and we will change teams each week. Full Equipment is required, including neck guards and mouth guard.



No check adult league.

• B league: any age over 18. Sunday night games.

• C league: 40 years and up. Weeknight games.

Fee:$ 2,000 per team, due Nov 1


This novice skate is designed for players with at least one year of recent hockey and/or skate experience who want to go out and have fun learning and playing hockey in a non-competitive environment. Participants need their own full equipment and this meets every Friday night from 10:10-11:40pm.



Holiday Hockey Clinic

Well Known instructor Kenny McCudden returns this season for his popular holiday hockey clinic. Kenny has worked with youth hockey players as well as professional players. Space is limited.

Coaches Needed

Our Volunteer coaches are the backbone of the program. You can help make a lifetime of memories for kids. If you are interested just fill out an application at the front desk. We need head coaches and assistants. You will receive notice of our annual coaches meeting in early October.


Ice Rink Boosters Club

Volunteers needed to help plan one or two events for the ice rink booster club. The Club raises money for specific ice rink projects to help keep our rink up to date. Past projects funded by the booster club were: Dugouts, improved lighting, new goalie equipment, heaters in players benches and score table area(will be completed in near future) Projects for the future of the ice rink are replacing the remainder of goalie equipment and new scoreboard with penalty times .
