About Our Swim Lesson Offerings

Swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise and a challenging sport. We offer swim lessons (for all ages) and adaptive swim programs for kids with special needs, so we can all safely enjoy the pleasures of an aquatic environment. Whether it’s learning how to swim, perfecting your stroke or staying fit, the Y has a swim lesson program that’s right for you.


Parent/Child (ages 6m-3y) Swim Lessons

(Ages 6 months to 3 years) Promotes water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child's self-confidence. Parents learn from the instructor's example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise. So let's just pool it!

Preschool (ages 3-5) Swim Lessons

Children (Ages 3-6) These programs offer children their first experience in the water without a parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, including: water propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety and pool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of various instructional flotation devices.

School Age (ages 5-12) Swim Lessons

Children (Ages 6-13) These programs follow the YMCA of the USA’s guidelines to swim lessons. There is a focus on five main points: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue.

Group Adult Swim Lessons

(Ages 18+) It's never too late to learn or improve your swimming skills. Participants must be able to front and back float independently and swim half the length of the pool. This class is for the more advanced beginner who is already comfortable in the water, but is ready to take it to the next step.
