YMCA STATEWIDE ACTION ALERT
Please call or email your legislator TODAY to let them know we need the General Assembly to pass a $73 million supplemental appropriation to the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).
Providers whose families receive CCAP dollars through IDHS have are in danger of not receiving reimbursement for CCAP dollars until the start of the state’s fiscal year (July 1, 2012). YMCAs affected include:
- YMCA of Metro Chicago (Action for Children)
- Decatur YMCA (Child Care Resource Service)
- Peoria YMCA (SAL Child Care Connection)
- Danville YMCA
IDHS’s 2012 fiscal year budget (ending June 30, 2012) did not include sufficient funding for the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), a cash assistance program for needy children and their families. Federal funding that was originally allocated to the CCAP is being used to plug the gap in TANF funding through the end of the fiscal year, which leaves CCAP underfunded. The YMCA of Metro Chicago relies on CCAP support for approximately $875,000 from our child care and day camp revenue for just this short period alone - funds that affect thousands of families that need our services.
The IDHS is asking the Illinois General Assembly for a $73 million immediate supplemental allocation to cover these costs statewide. Please do your part and appeal to your legislator today!
