Urban Warriors mentor Abner Garcia was slain August 15 in a random act of violence. Abner was a military veteran dedicated to keeping youth out of gangs. 

Audie Cornish of NPR's All Things Considered spoke with some of Abner's Urban Warrior colleagues about the positive impact he made and the difficult task of helping Urban Warriors youth through this tragedy. Listen to Audie Cornish's story here.

Abner served in the armed forces from 2011 to 2014 and started mentoring with Urban Warriors soon after returning to Chicago. He was studying criminal justice at UIC and planned to become a police officer.
