ABC 7 Eyewitness News reporter Sarah Schulte spoke with Keisha Abel, member experience director at the South Chicago YMCA, about the center’s closing. The South Chicago YMCA served the neighborhood near 91st and Commercial for more than 90 years. A steady decline in membership and program participation has led to this carefully weighted decision. The senior housing complex will continue to operate, and the Youth Safety and Violence Prevention program will stay in the facility until a suitable, nearby site is identified.
