Take a new class. Meet a new friend. Mentor a future leader.
With the beginning of each year, we get the opportunity to start fresh and set our sights on more—more focus on our health, more time with our families, more chances to learn and more support for our neighbors. Setting New Year’s resolutions is easy, but seeing them through can be challenging. At the Y, you’ll find the resources, guidance and encouragement you need to achieve your personal goals and turn them into positive habits for a happier, more balanced life.
Here are a few ways the Y can help you achieve more this year:
Whether your goal is to run a 5K or reduce your risk of developing a chronic disease, Y resources like group fitness classes and the YMCA’s Y MaxTraining System can provide the support you need. Not only will you be healthier, but you’ll also develop confidence and a sense of pride as you take control of your health and realize just how much you’re capable of accomplishing.
Y TIP: Members, make sure you set up your free Fitness Consultation today to learn more about Y resources and how you can meet your goals in 2015! Contact the membership desk to schedule your consultation today!
Finding time to connect as a family isn’t always easy, but family focused Y programs like Adventure Guides and Family Night create opportunities for families to learn, grow and thrive together. The Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility create a nurturing environment where adults and kids alike can play and enjoy time with each other.
Y Tip: Each month the Y offers FREE family friendly activities as well as open gym and swim time (for members) to help provide families plenty of opportunities for quality time. This month YMCA of Metro Chicago Ys across Chicagoland will be providing a FREE Fitness and Program Fair on January 23 or 24. These events are loaded with fun family activities sure to get your heart pumping and to introduce you to a whole new group of programs and activities rolling out this Spring at the Y.
Learning is a lifelong endeavor that supports well-being at any age. At the Y, you can improve your athletic skills, stretch out with yoga or refine your water skills with swimming lessons. As you discover new passions at the Y, you’ll also make connections with others who share your interests.
Y Tip: Feel like you’ve hit a plateau with your fitness goals? Maybe you’re doing the same old routine and you need to change things up a bit. Take a second look at our group and water fitness offerings. Remember, as a member of a YMCA of Metro Chicago association YMCA, you are able to not only take advantage of all the offerings at your home YMCA but you can also check out offerings at any YMCA of Metro Chicago Y as well! We’ve added some new classes sure to move you to your next fitness level. Try them out and don’t forget to introduce yourself to other Y members when you do. They are a great source of inspiration to try new things too!
No matter your skills, resources or schedule, at the Y you can find a way to give back and support your neighbors. From afterschool tutoring to organizing a service project, you can volunteer to lend a hand and strengthen your community. Along the way, you’re likely to develop new friendships and learn more about your neighbors and yourself. Just ask Y staff how you can help.
