Basketball Tournament to Recruit Veterans Featured on Extra News

The YMCA teams up with Chicago Veterans to host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to help recruit veterans for the Y's Urban Warriors program."

 

The YMCA teamed up with Chicago Veterans to host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to recruit more veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for the Y's Urban Warriors program.
Urban Warriors has a 16-week curriculum that touches on topics such as manhood, bereavement, team-building and community service. The idea is to give youth who may be caught up in gang life a platform to talk about these issues with combat veterans who can relate to them. 

The YMCA teamed up with Chicago Veterans to host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to recruit more veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for the Y's Urban Warriors program. “We want to make sure that people are more aware of this program and that veterans who have been home for several years and want to be more involved in community work by doing something about the headlines about violence…this is a way for them to get involved,” stated Eddie Bocanegra, co-executive director of youth safety and violence prevention at the YMCA.
