8 Ways for Families to Have Fun in Chicago This August

Chicago is a vibrant and thriving city that always has something new up its sleeves. Check out what fun activities you and your family can enjoy for the month of August.

  1. Wake up early every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this month for free yoga and Zumba® at Millennium Park!
  2. Visit your local YMCA center for their monthly Family Night, free at most locations for both members and non-members.
  3. Don’t miss out on special museum exhibits and rare appearances such as the Lincoln Park Conservatory’s Summer Flower Show or the mysterious Floating Museum, both open to the public until the end of August.
  4. Cheer on your favorite yellow ducky along the Chicago River at the annual Rubber Duck Derby (August 3)
  5. Check out a performance by the Grant Park Orchestra for free or head to the famous Ravinia theater to hear to the entire score from all three Lord of the Rings films.
  6. Spend the night at your local park district with free movie showings and theater performances, including Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet”!
  7. Take a walk or ride your bike on the city’s 606 path (and check out the McCormick YMCA while you’re there!)
  8. Plan a trip to the beach for swimming, strolling and the annual Air and Water Show (August 19-20)!
